Spoon Carving & Shaving Horses

Taught by Peter Forbes and Greg Ryan

September 18, 2016

$125

Spend the day carving your own wooden spoon and becoming familiar with the Shaving Horse with writer, community-builder, and artist Peter Forbes and designer, builder & master-craftsman Greg Ryan.
At Knoll Farm and in places as far away as Alaska and Guatemala, Peter has used spooncarving as a method for bringing diverse groups together and for helping people to access their creativity.  In this workshop you will learn to design, carve, and finish your own hardwood spoon.
Greg will introduce you to the Shaving Horse, a very useful combination vice and workbench that has been a mainstay of woodworkers for hundreds of years.  We’ll explore different types of shaving horses and the tools used with them, including draw knives and spokeshaves.  Simple plans to build your own will be provided.
Previous woodworking experience is helpful but not necessary.
I want to live in a society where people are intoxicated with the joy of making things.”
